STOW, Ohio – An Ohio man may have tipped off his intentions when he stood in line at a bank wearing a ski mask before staging a holdup.

Police in Stow say Feliks Goldshtein was arrested following a brief car chase. Police say the teller asked the man to take off the mask before being served. The man displayed what turned out to be a toy gun and demanded money from the teller.

He made off with an undisclosed amount.

Police Captain Rick Myers says it’s unusual for a masked robber to wait in line at a bank.

The 24-year-old man was jailed on charges of aggravated robbery and failure to comply with a police order.

What’s worse than the death penalty?

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PORTLAND–A New York man who pleaded guilty to murder in Oregon in exchange for buckets of fried chicken will get calzones and pizza to go with his life sentence.

Tremayne Durham, 33, of New York City, admitted last month that he fatally shot Adam Calbreath, 39, of Gresham, in June 2006.

Durham agreed to plead guilty, but only if he could get a break from jail food.

The judge agreed and granted Durham a feast of KFC chicken, Popeye’s chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake and ice cream.

After Wednesday’s sentencing, Durham’s attorney confirmed that he will get the rest of the deal – calzones, lasagna, pizza and ice cream.

It may be awhile before Durham can dine in such style again – he’s not eligible for parole for another 30 years.

Slow Dance

SLOW DANCE

Have you ever
watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask ‘How are you?’

Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You’d better slow down
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.

Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die.
Cause you never had time,
To call and say,‘Hi’

You’d better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift….
Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

PLEASE pass this poem on to everyone you know – even to those you don’t know! It is the request of a special girl who will soon leave this world due to cancer.

This young girl has 6 months left to live, and as her dying wish, she wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live their life to the fullest, since she never will.

She’ll never make it to prom, graduate from high school, or get married and have a family of her own.

PLEASE PASS ON AS A LAST REQUEST.

Enlightening Research Result: Dumbos Live forever!

Source: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/080604/oddities/switzerland_science_animal_1

It doesn’t pay to be smart and ignorance really is bliss if you want a long life — at least if you’re a fly, according to new research by a Swiss university.

Scientists Tadeusz Kawecki and Joep Burger at the University of Lausanne said Wednesday they had discovered a “negative correlation between an improvement in a fly’s mental capacity and its longevity”.

As part of their research project, the results of which are published in the journal Evolution, they divided into two a group of flies from the Basel region of northwestern Switzerland.

One half was left in a natural state while the other had its intelligence boosted by Pavlovian methods, such as associating smell and taste with particular food or experiences.

Over 30 to 40 generations, these methods led to flies which clearly learned better and remembered things for longer.

The flipside was that the flies left in their natural state lived longer on average than their “cleverer” counterparts, with a lifespan of 80-85 days rather than the normal 50-60..

“In other terms, the more the fly becomes intelligent, the shorter its lifespan,” the scientists said.

This is most probably because the increase in neural activity weakens the fly’s life-support systems, they speculated.

“This would explain why flies, like most other animals, have hardly developed their neural capacities,” they said.

救救垂死的 Carolyn 吧! Save Dying Carolyn!

這個不是抽你的骨髓, 而只如果你是合適的話, 只是比捐血複雜小小的抽血吧了, 便可救人一命喇。

Donating stem cells is nothing like sucking your bone marrow out, it’s only a shade more than donating your blood. Although I am in no way related to Carolyn, yet I was deeply moved by her mother’s pledge to save her daughter’s life!!!
